Lessons from Sūrah 33 – Sūratul Aḥzāb

  1. Adopt taqwā.

  2. Rely solely on Allāh.

  3. Hypocrisy is a grave evil.

  4. Allāh is oft forgiving and merciful.

  5. Remember the favours of Allāh by looking back on incidents from the past.[1]

  6. The Ṣaḥābah رضي الله عنهم were tested to the limits by Allāh, a test which they passed.

  7. The hypocrites were the enemy within, and they were always trying to cause disruption.

  8. Who can save you from Allāh if He decides to inflict you with difficulty, or even decides to shower you with His mercy?[2]

  9. The best example for us is in the Messenger ﷺ

  10. Depending on your status in society and as a person of religious stature, there is a certain level of conduct that is demanded of you that is above that of others.[3]

  11. The reward you receive from Allāh will multiply depending on your sacrifices.[4]

  12. The wives of the Prophet ﷺ were duty-bound by Allāh to inform the masses what would be revealed within the confines of their homes, and any wisdom that would be imparted by the Prophet ﷺ when in private.

  13. When Allāh and His Messenger ﷺ decide something for an individual, there remains no choice in the matter for them.

  14. Allāh has more right that you fear Him than fear the people.

  15. There are āyāt in the Qur’ān wherein Allāh directly rebukes the Prophet ﷺ, yet the Prophet ﷺ did not conceal these āyāt from us, which proves his truthfulness in his claim to Prophethood and trustworthiness.[5]

  16. Muḥammad ﷺ was the seal of the Prophets; he was the final one.

  17. Remember Allāh in abundance.

  18. Ignore the inconveniences and trouble caused by the hypocrites. Rely on Allāh to take care of them.

  19. There were certain privileges given by Allāh to the Prophet ﷺ over the rest of the Ummah.

  20. When invited to eat at someone’s house, don’t sit around talking after the food has been served being oblivious to the host’s circumstances.

  21. You should never shy away from the truth.[6]

  22. Send salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ in abundance.

  23. A modest dress code is a means of protection.[7]

  24. The knowledge of the Final Hour is only with Allāh.

  25. The disbelievers will regret not following the Messenger ﷺ in the Hereafter.

  26. Do not mock and jest any Prophet.

  27. Speak in straightforward terms. Don’t beat around the bush.
