Lessons from Sūrah 12 - Sūrat Yūsuf
Stories are mentioned in the Qur’ān to take lessons from.
Take the advice of parents and follow it as far as possible.
Do not tell people everything; sometimes you need to keep things to yourself to accomplish things.
Beware of people’s jealousy.
Jealousy is very dangerous for those who suffer from it.
When faced with the temptation and opportunity to commit sin, seek refuge in Allāh.
Yūsuf عليه السلام preferred imprisonment over disobedience to Allāh; no matter what worldly difficulties we have to endure, we should also be committed to refraining from sin.
When faced with the opportunity to sin, seek the help of Allāh to reject it.
To invite people towards Allāh whilst imprisoned is the Sunnah of Yūsuf عليه السلام.
Even in the most adverse of circumstances, you should not become neglectful of your duties.
Allāh does not let the plots of the deceivers succeed.
Try what you can in terms of using permissible worldly means to get yourself out of trouble.
Be careful of whom you trust, especially if you’ve had negative experiences with them in the past.
Take precautions for protecting yourself and loved ones from the evil eye.
For every knowledgeable person, there’s someone more knowledgeable than them.
In sadness and grief, turn to Allāh.
Whoever adopts taqwā and bears patience, Allāh does not let their efforts go to waste.
Don’t lose hope in the Mercy of Allāh
Always be grateful to Allāh
Only the intelligent take heed of the lessons from the stories of the previous nations mentioned in the Qur’ān.
Recite this du‘ā frequently:
فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَنْتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ
‘O the Creator of the heavens & the earth! You are my guardian in this world and the Hereafter, give me death as a Muslim and join me with the pious.’
