Why Do We Forget the Qur’ān?


Imām Al-Qurṭubī and Imām Ibn Kathīr رحمهما الله both quote the statement of the great Mufassir (Scholar of Tafsīr), Aḍ-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Al-Muzāḥim رحمه الله, which is an eye-opener for all of us who learn the Qur’ān (or some portions of it) and then find that we have forgotten it. He says:

“No-one learns the Qur’ān and then forgets it except due to a sin that he commits, because Allāh says in the Qur’ān, ‘Whatever hardship befalls you is because of what your own hands have committed…[1]’; and forgetting the Qur’ān is the gravest of hardships.”[2]

May Allāh keep us under his protection from all calamities, at all times. Āmīn.

الْقُرْآنِ مِنْ أَعْظَمِ الْمَصَائِبِ
